Welcome to our SHPE VCC Website!

Thank you for visiting the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Ventura County Chapter (SHPE VCC) site.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Ventura County Chapter of SHPE is to promote opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) to students, professionals, and surrounding communities.

SHPE VCC Executive Board Members:
 

President: Sylvia Salinas has been part of SHPE VCC since 2004.  Prior to becoming the SHPE VCC President, she has also held the office of Second VP and Administrative Assistant.  As the President, she has committed to bring out the best in all the SHPE VCC members and foster an environment that keeps our members returning for a joint cause. Sylvia began her SHPE (Los Ingenieros) journey at UC Santa Barbara where she received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Business Economics.  You can contact Sylvia at:  president@shpevcc.com.

Co-First VP - Community Outreach: James Gomez has been part of SHPE VCC since 1991.   Also a member of SHPE (Los Ingenieros) at UC Santa Barbara since 1986, James graduated in 1990 with a B.S. Electrical Engineering.  His current goal as Co-First Vice-President is to hold a couple of engineering related outreach programs for the Hispanic community.  You can contact James at vp_outreach2@shpevcc.com.

Co-First VP - Community Outreach: Franklin Tomei has been part of SHPE VCC since 2007. He currently holds the post of Co-First VP, and is the immediate past president for the previous two years.  Frank first became involved with the organization at the student chapter of the University of Kansas in 1998, where he graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He also earned a M.S. Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2007. Part of his duties as Co-First VP includes organizing community outreach programs within the Ventura County. Second VP - Membership: Lorena Silva has been a part of SHPE VCC since 2005.  In the last 3 years she has held the office of Administrative Assistant, Historian and now Second VP.  As the board member responsible for membership, she has committed to continuing to improve our recruitment process and retention rate.  Lorena also belonged to the SHPE student chapter at CSU Northridge where she received her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.  She now holds a M.S. in Engineering Management from USC. Treasurer: Alex Rivera  has been part of the SHPE VCC since 1990, when SHPE officially chartered our group.  Part of his goals for this year include to ensure accuracy and time-reporting of SHPE-VCC finances, understand financial accounting for non-profit organizations like SHPE-VCC, work with other board officers to develop and maintain Chapter budget plan, and maintain knowledge of the organization through leadership to attain SHPE VCCs goals and objectives.  You can contact Alex at treasurer@shpevccc.com.

Administrative Assistant: Linda Perez has been part of SHPE VCC for the last 2 years; both years she has held the office of Administrative Assistant.  Her knowledge of SHPE began in her CSU Northridge college days were she obtained a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
